Overview of the statutory holiday regulations for the canton selected in the deadline calculator

Glarus

Glarus

List based on Article 11 of the European Convention of 16 May 1972 on the Calculation of Time-Limits (SR 0.221.122.3), abbreviated CETS No. 076

The list is up-to-date (excluding holidays that always fall on a Sunday):

  • New Year's Day (January 1)
  • Good Friday (Easter minus 2 days)
  • Easter Monday (Easter plus 1 day)
  • Fahrtsfest (always on the first Thursday in April)
  • Ascension Day (Easter plus 39 days)
  • Whit Monday (Easter plus 50 days)
  • Swiss National Day (August 1)
  • All Saints' Day (November 1)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
  • Boxing Day (December 26)

The list mentions Berchtoldstag as a day treated like a public holiday. However, no legal basis can be found for this. In the judgment of the Glarus High Court OG.2017.00003 of January 25, 2021, it states: "In the Canton of Glarus, not only January 1 but also January 2 is a public holiday" (see https://www.swisslex.ch/de/doc/claw/9e62832f-20c2-4387-8beb-d0e4d3b071c3). However, the decision does not refer to the observance of an official or judicial deadline.

The Glarus post office is also closed on Berchtoldstag: https://www.local.ch/de/d/glarus/8750/post-filiale-8750-glarus-XZx2LRTkD4SVVbJTskzakg

If you want to be absolutely sure, it's best not to treat Berchtoldstag as a public holiday.

Art. 2 Para. 2 RTG/GL
